Ice Sculptures in Japan
Monday 17 January 2011Although Japan is mostly known for its cherry blossom viewing festivals, there is also another one that is almost just as known.

It’s the Sapporo Snow Festival. Held for seven days during February, it is the largest winter festival and the most viewed. This year, it will be held between the 7th and 13th February, in Odori Park. It was started in 1950 by six local students who sculpted ice statues and showcased them. Now, the festival has reached the 62nd edition. The advertisers say that this edition will boast performances, snow slides, mazes and, of course, regional food from Hokkaido.
Millions will come again this year to Sapporo to see awe-inspiring statues, like palaces, sceneries and statues drawn from fairy-tales, as well as contemporary events and people. They can see artists create legends in the blocks of ice or watch as cooks prepare fresh sea-food, specific of Hokkaido.
Awe-inspiring wins only on Bingo 770!
